Multiple fibroids removed by keyhole surgery — uterus preserved

A woman with severe pelvic pain and heavy bleeding had many fibroids removed laparoscopically, one by one, while keeping her uterus and its lining intact.

A patient came to MCM Comprehensive Specialized Hospital with severe pelvic pain and heavy menstrual bleeding. Imaging showed numerous uterine fibroids (myomas) that were distorting the shape of her uterus and explained her symptoms.

Her care was led by Dr. Gebresilassie Andualem, gynecologist and laparoscopic surgeon and Head of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. After careful planning, the fibroids were removed one at a time through small keyhole incisions — a procedure called laparoscopic myomectomy.

The outcome

  • All fibroids were removed
  • The uterus was preserved
  • The endometrial cavity (the lining where a pregnancy implants) stayed intact

Keeping the uterus matters for women who hope to become pregnant in the future. Compared with open surgery, keyhole surgery usually means less pain, a shorter hospital stay and a faster return to daily life.

The patient recovered well. If you have heavy periods, pelvic pain or a fibroid diagnosis, you can book a visit with our gynecology team to discuss the options that are right for you.
