Free surgery removes a 20 cm uterine mass after a mobile clinic visit

A 30-year-old woman from Shashemene seen at a mobile clinic in Bishoftu had a very large uterine mass removed free of charge.

Surgical team operating at MCM

During a mobile clinic held in Bishoftu town, our team met a 30-year-old woman from Shashemene. A pelvic MRI showed several masses in and on the wall of her uterus, the largest measuring about 20 × 15 × 17 cm on the left side.

Dr. Gebresilassie, gynecologist, carried out the operation free of charge and removed the mass.

Why outreach matters

Many women live for years with growing fibroids or pelvic masses because specialist care is far away or unaffordable. Mobile clinics bring specialist assessment closer to communities and connect women who need surgery with the care they need.

Warning signs worth checking include a swelling in the lower abdomen, heavy or prolonged periods, pressure on the bladder or bowel, and pelvic pain. Our gynecology clinic can assess these problems.
