Look and feel
Get to know how your breasts normally look and feel, including during your monthly cycle. There is no single right way to check.
Changes to report
- A new lump or thickening in the breast or armpit
- A change in size or shape
- Skin dimpling, redness or orange-peel texture
- Nipple turning in, a rash, or discharge (especially blood)
Clinical breast examination
Ask for a breast examination at your gynecology or well-woman visit. Your doctor may arrange an ultrasound or mammogram if needed.
Early diagnosis
Most lumps are not cancer, but every new lump should be checked. Early diagnosis makes treatment simpler and more successful.
